A Traditional Anglican Parish in Centreville
The Church of the Ascension is a parish of the Anglican Catholic Church, serving Centreville and the surrounding communities of Northern Virginia.
We are a congregation rooted in the historic Christian faith, the sacramental life of the Church, and the traditional worship of the Anglican tradition. Since 1973, Ascension has worshipped in Centreville’s historic Old Stone Church, where generations have gathered for prayer, the preaching of the Gospel, and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
Our Life Together
At Ascension, our common life is centered upon the worship of Almighty God.
Each Sunday we gather for the celebration of Holy Communion according to the historic Anglican tradition. The Holy Scriptures, the Sacraments, the Church Year, prayer, sacred music, Christian education, and fellowship all shape the life of our parish.
But a parish is more than a place where people attend a service. It is a community in which Christians worship together, learn together, pray for one another, share one another’s joys and burdens, and seek together to grow in the life of Christ.
Historic Faith for the Present Day
We believe the Christian faith is something we receive rather than something each generation must reinvent.
Ascension seeks faithfully to preserve and hand on the faith revealed in Holy Scripture, confessed in the ancient Creeds, taught by the historic Church, and lived through the sacramental and devotional life of Christianity.
For us, tradition is not simply a matter of preserving things because they are old. It means receiving something of enduring value, living it faithfully in the present, and handing it on to those who come after us.
Worship, Fellowship, and Christian Formation
Our parish life continues beyond the Sunday liturgy.
Following Holy Communion, parishioners and visitors ordinarily gather for fellowship and light refreshments. An adult study class is also typically offered, providing opportunities to explore Holy Scripture, Christian doctrine, Church history, and other aspects of the faith.
About once a month, usually on the first Sunday, those who wish to do so gather to recite the Holy Rosary. Participation is entirely optional.
Children are part of the worshipping life of Ascension as well. Sunday School is offered when our teacher is available, and “busy boxes” with quiet activities are provided for younger children when Sunday School is not being held.

Through the Anglican Catholic Church, we are part of a wider fellowship committed to maintaining the Catholic Faith, Apostolic Order, orthodox Christian doctrine, and the historic worship and spiritual heritage of Anglicanism.
